CESC Ltd has won the power distribution franchise license for 20 years from Rajasthan government utility Jaipur Vidyut Vitaran Nigam Ltd for two cities -- Kota and Bharatpur. CESC has also formed two wholly owned separate special purpose vehicles for the franchise specific distribution of electricity. The entities would begin power supply in two cities from August, Sanjiv Goenka, Chairman of RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group, told reporters here on Wednesday .

Goenka said the CESC would invest Rs 150 crore to operate the franchises and expected to earn an annual revenue of around Rs 750 crore.

Kota distribution franchise is spread over 150 square km area and has 1.76 lakh retistered consumers in 2014-15. Of this total number of consumers, power is distributed to 314 through high tension lines. It consumer base grew by 7 per cent in 2014-15 over the previous fiscal. The transmission and distribution loss in the franchise area during 2014-15 stood at 29.71 per cent.

The Bharatpur Distribution Franchise (BESL) is spread over 50 sqkm and has 47,641 registered consumers, which grew 2.5 per cent. It has 165 HT consumers. It reported T&D losses of 27.43 per cent.

CESC said that automation in distribution, along with digital services for new connections, name change and AC connection were being organised in the two franchise areas.
