The Coimbatore based pump manufacturer C.R.I. Pumps, has adopted nine Government schools, ranging from elementary to higher secondary schools, in Coimbatore district as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, marking the second time the company in recent years has involved itself in the improvement of school infrastructure and in promoting the all round personality development of the government school students.

G Soundararajan, Vice Chairman, CRI Pumps and A Gnanagowri, Chief Educational Officer, Coimbatore, signed the MoU.

In a release, the company said the MoU covered Govt.Hr.Sec. school in Koilpalayam, Govt.High schools in Idigarai and Saravanampatti, Panchayat Union middle schools in Keeranatham, Kurumbapalayam, Chinnavedampatti and Oraikalpalayam and Panchayat Union elementary school in Kunnathur and Saravanampatti.

The company said that it has intended to take steps in a phased manner to ensure that no child was left behind in the pursuit for better education by organising specialized programmes for children with slow learning abilities. To tackle the problem of chronic absenteeism, CRI Pumps will post counsellors to keep track of attendance and offer advice to irregular students. It would also arrange for providing vocational training and personality development classes to ensure that these students matched their peers from private schools, besides offering them computer coaching classes, meditation sessions and yoga classes. It would also hold health camps and address the infrastructural needs of schools.

To enable better performance in public exams, 10{+t}{+h} and 12{+t}{+h} standard students would have extra coaching along with motivational sessions and career guidance classes. Apart from equipping the schools with sports infrastructure, CRI Pumps would extend financial support for their participation in competitions.

It has planned to extend `Project Shiksha’ to provide financial assistance to meritorious students for higher education and deserving students would get employment opportunities in the company.

CRI Pumps is involving itself for the second time in five years in the improvement to government school infrastructure and in enabling the all round development of the students in these schools. It had in May 2009 signed a MoU with the education department under which it adopted 8 government schools.

The company, in its release, said the project implemented by it had led to many positive developments including a marked decline in student absenteeism, improvement in pass percentage from just above 70 per cent to more than 95 per cent now, all round improvement in performance and more importantly it has led to the doubling of the student enrolment and even migration of students from matriculation schools to the government schools. The company estimated that more than 42,000 government school students were benefited from the initiative.

The alumni association of Siddapudur Hr.Sec School, which is backed by C.R.I Pumps, has itself adopted two schools - Govt. Higher Secondary School, Ganapathy and Govt.High School, Gandhi Maanagar, the release added.
