Danfoss India, a leading mechanical and component manufacturer and supplier in the heating ventilation and air-conditioning segment, sees huge potential for expansion in the country in the manufacturing as also in the research and development segment.

Part of the Denmark-based multinational corporation Danfoss that operates in over 100 countries with 59 factories and 79 centres and employing over 25,000 people globally, Danfoss India sees its employee headcount going up from the current 500 to over 1500 people as its expands its presence.

L, Director, Strategic Initiatives and industry Affairs, Danfoss India, told Business Line that the company is investing significantly in the country both in increasing its manpower but also manufacturing capability. “We are investing nearly Rs 500 crore on a new factory in Oragadam located near Chennai in Tamil Nadu. This will add significant capacity,” he said.

“The new facility will also help up relocate the existing manufacturing located near Chennai but also create new capability. This includes manufacture of Filter Driers, Pressure Switches and Panels for variable frequency,” he said.

Danfoss has big plans for India. This includes looking at expanding the product manufacturing portfolio depending upon their viability, while also making India a research and development hub. “We have grown from about 300 people to 500 in a short span and expect to repeat this and take it up to about 1500 people soon. Of this, nearly 50 per cent would be in R&D,” he explained.

“Given the people skills available in India, the expansion of R&D teams here is a logical move. The market for air-conditioning and related areas will grow significantly over the next few years. The manufacturing capacity in India will not only enable us to serve the local market but also make it a regional hub for other markets,” he said.
