In one of his rare visits to Bengaluru, Ivan Menezes, CEO of Diageo plc, the world’s largest liquor company, said India has become the company’s second largest market globally.
Menezes, who was here on Tuesday for the opening of Diageo Enterprise Operations, said the new business centre will hire over 1,000 people in the next couple of years. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah inaugurated the centre along with Menezes.
Diageo’s subsidiary United Spirits is India’s largest liquor company. In 2014, Diageo became the largest shareholder in United Spirits, with a total stake of 54.8 per cent. “We have together started to create a compelling future for our business in India, to capture the significant growth opportunities in one of the biggest spirits markets in the world,” Menezes said.
He added that the new business centre is one of the company’s five shared service centres globally — the others being located in Manila, Nairobi, Budapest and Bogota.
In three years, the Bengaluru centre is likely to become one of Diageo’s biggest business centres, supporting the company’s customers, suppliers and employees, providing services to 70 global markets, he further said.
