Two-wheeler manufacturers are smarting at being left out of Government projects, so far. “We wish the Government would have taken a decision for the larger industry so that electric two-wheelers could also participate in similar projects,” said Sohinder Gill, Director, Corporate Affairs, Society of Manufacturers of Electric Vehicles (SMEV) .
Gill, also the Chief Executive Officer (Global Business) of Hero Electric, said that over the last two years, companies have been requesting the Government for support, but nothing has been done. “Projects that include only three-wheelers and mini-buses are not fair to electric two-wheeler manufacturers,” he said.
He added that the industry is planning to meet the ministers concerned on Monday. SMEV has been requesting the Government to provide charging stations in public areas, so that it promotes the industry, but without success. Chetan Maini, Chief of Strategy and Technology, Mahindra Reva Electric Vehicles, did not agree with the idea.
“Two-wheelers are small and can be charged at home, even carried inside the home and plugged and charged like a mobile phone. They do not need charging infrastructure in a big way,” he said.
