Kolkata-based Elgin Hotels Pvt Ltd, a heritage and boutique leisure company, is expanding operations both in India and overseas.

Promoted by Brij Raj Oberoi, a cousin of PRS Oberoi of EIH Ltd, Elgin is building a 65-key beachfront property in Mauritius.

“We are also building a new 4-star deluxe hotel at Siliguri, West Bengal, and setting up a 30-room new wing at our Darjeeling heritage hotel,” Viraj Oberoi, Director, told Business Line . The three projects would cost Elgin ₹45-₹50 crore.

The Mauritius property, branded as the Societe New Elgin Hotel, is being built on 2.5 acres on the north-west coast of the island-nation. “The property would be on a 60-year renewable lease and will have an artificial lagoon pouring onto the Indian Ocean, a spa and a couple of restaurants,” he added.

A local partner, who would hold 70 per cent of the equity of the Mauritian entity, is developing the asset, which will be ready by October. Elgin would manage and operate it. Fifteen European tour operators and two global online trip managers – Expedia.com and Agoda – have started marketing the property in Europe.

The 30-key Siliguri project will be located on 2.5 acres of purchased land. “The project should be complete within two years,” the Director said.
