Faced with demand crisis from the automobiles segment, India’s foundry industry has increasingly started focusing on other areas like aerospace, defence, infrastructure and construction . The automobile segment, which includes tractor makers and other auto companies, has the largest share of around 32 per cent in the India’s total castings consumption of about 8 million tonnes.
“The foundry industry has been facing demand crisis consequent to reduced production figures of nearly 30-40 per cent in the automotive and light commercial vehicle segment,” said Reena Bhagwati, President, The Institute of Indian Foundrymen (IIF).
“ So, we are shifting focus to sectors like defence, aerospace, construction and infrastructure,” she said. The 3-day Indian Foundry Congress will be held at Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar during February 7-9. Nearly 15,000 delegates are expected to attend.
