Godrej Appliances has forayed into the healthcare refrigeration space.

The company on Monday announced the launch of medical refrigerators under a technology licensing agreement with the UK-based The Sure Chill Company.

These specialised medical refrigerators have been designed to providei precise cooling for preserving vaccines used worldwide in immunisation programmes and for the storage of blood banks.

Godrej Sure Chill will be available in two model variants with the 50-litre variant priced between ₹65,000 and ₹75,000 and the 100-litre variant will be priced between ₹1.35 lakh and ₹1.5 lakh.

Jamshyd Godrej, MD and Chairman, Godrej & Boyce Manufacturing Company, said, “Every year millions of vaccines get wasted due to inadequate storage facilities. India is a focus for us as this is a very big challenge for the country as well as other countries across the globe.”

He said that this partnership will bring together Godrej’s expertise in refrigeration with The Sure Chill Company’s in-depth technical expertise in the medical refrigeration space to create a product that will help governments across the world in their immunisation efforts.

Godrej Appliances will design and manufacture these medical refrigerators in India, but will also sell the product to other countries.

Some of the regions that the company plans to sell these medical refrigerators include markets covering SAARC, MENA including Pakistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, and Saudi Arabia.

Peter Saunders, Chairman, The Sure Chill Company, said: “Under this technology licensing agreement, we will also work with Godrej for future technology and products developments that will help us stay ahead of our competitors.”

Holdover time Godrej Appliances, Business Head and EVP, Kamal Nandi, said that keeping in mind the Indian conditions, the company has increased the holdover time of these vaccine refrigerators by 30 per cent.

He said the company has also built in voltage stabiliser and spike guard and these refrigerators can cool for over 10 days with no power at all.
