In a bid to recapture the lightweight motorcycle class, and targeting the young urban riders, Harley-Davidson (HD) unveiled here its two new motorcycles, the Street 500 and Street 750. These two new Dark Customs motorcycles have been built on an all-new platform, a first from HD in 13 years.

Harley Davidson is expected to price Street 750 motorcycle under Rs 5 lakh on road in India. The exact pricing details will be revealed in the Auto Expo 2014.

The Street 750 will debut at India Bike Week, to be held in Goa come January. HD has not announced the launch date for Street 500 yet.

Motorcycles for urban traffic

The new Street motorcycles will also feature the new Revolution X engine, which is designed specially to meet the requirements of urban riding conditions. The engines are housed in a lean, narrow and nimble frame, to make the motorcycles quick and agile while riding through traffic. The suspension has been tuned keeping in mind the roughest urban traffic.

These motorcycles were unveiled a day before The International Motorcycle Show, EICMA, begins. Harley-Davidson’s officials stated at the launch event that these motorcycles are also meant to be platforms for customisation, as their customers love customising their bikes. HD also showed off some of its own customisations with the new Street bikes. According to the company, these bikes were developed in close association with young riders, which involved interviewing 1600 prospective buyers.

Shipment from India

These bikes will form the entry level line-up for HD, in India and elsewhere, sitting below the Superlow line-up. The company will ship 7,000-10,000 Street 750 motorcycles from its Bawal facility, in Haryana, to Indian and European markets during the first year.

The exact details about the motorcycles’ technical specifications, power delivery and most importantly, pricing and availability, is yet to be revealed.
