The first unit of (2x520 MW) 1,040 MW Hinduja National Power Corporation Ltd is set to be commissioned by October-November and start power supplies.

The second unit of 520 MW will also be commissioned by early next year adding to more capacity, according to the Chairman and Managing Director of AP Transco, Hiralal Samaria.

The coal-fired thermal power plant has been set up to serve as a merchant power facility. But, lately, they have indicated to the Andhra Pradesh Government that they are willing to supply the power generated to the State, Samaria said.

“However, the tariff for supply of power has not yet been decided. The tariff structure will be finalised by the Andhra Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission,” he said.

The project to be executed by late 1990s got delayed due to various reasons, including changes in the country’s regulatory environment. However, the Hinduja Group company has now put it on fast track mode and poised to complete it by early next year.

The project located near Visakhapatnam in Parwada area plans to cater to the growing demand for power in Andhra Pradesh and also in other areas of Southern region.

The Hinduja Group is now looking at a bigger play in the domestic power sector. It may also consider increasing the capacity.
