Honda Siel Cars India (HSCI) plans to restart deliveries of its Brio and Jazz compact models from mid-February, with its Greater Noida plant resuming almost full operations from Wednesday. Existing bookings are expected to be completed by next month.

The Japanese carmaker’s plant has been operating at minimal output (only making few units of the City sedan) for the last three months on a severe shortage of components from Thailand. Current booking have mounted to about 13,000 units (City, Jazz and Brio).

“We have resumed two shift operations from today. We will have production of 370 cars per day from today and from next week it will ramp up to 440 units per day.

We are confident to achieve peak production output in March 2012. Honda has taken all the necessary recovery actions to normalize production situation with critical components now being sourced from Japan & China,” HSCI’s Senior Vice-President (Marketing & Sales), Mr Jnaneswar Sen said.

The company has been fraught with problems for most of 2011 on a disruption in component supply, starting with the Japanese tsunami/earthquake in March and the Thailand floods around September/October. Sales thus fell 27 per cent to 32,771 units between April and December, 2011.

HSCI makes the Accord, Civic, City, Jazz and Brio at the 1.2 lakh a year capacity plant, while a second facility at Tapukara, Rajasthan is also almost ready for production.
