Honda Cars India (HCIL) on Monday has rolled out the first car from its Tapukara plant in Rajasthan.
The company is manufacturing the Amaze sedan at this plant.
To start with, it will make 60,000 units annually. It will be making both variants — diesel and petrol — at this plant.
At present, it is operating with one shift.
Growing demand Since its launch in April 2013, HCIL has sold 65,000 units of the Amaze sedan, the company said, adding that it will continue manufacturing the car at its Greater Noida plant to meet the demand.
“We will manufacture 60,000 units to begin with and as per demand, will utilise the full capacity of 1.20 lakh units per year, in future," Hironori Kanayama, President and Chief Executive Officer, HCIL, told reporters here.
As per demand, the company would utilise the plant in making any of the products that are sold in India — from Brio small car to the CRV sports utility vehicle, he said.
Investment With the ground-breaking ceremony in 2007, the company has invested ₹3,520 crore in this plant till now.
The company has around 3,200 employees at the plant, 2,600 of whom are on its pay-roll and the rest contract workers.
R&D centre Meanwhile, sighting some reports, the company said it is not working on any research and development centre here in India.
It does have a R&D centre for localisation at the Greater Noida plant, for its products as well as sales service, supplier chains and other departments.
