The Japanese utility vehicle manufacturer Isuzu, which is setting up a greenfield manufacturing unit in Sri City in Andhra Pradesh, expects to commission its plant by April 2016, while hinting that a number of ancillary units are keen to come up there.

A delegation led by Isuzu India Managing Director Takashi Kikuchi met State Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu today to update him on the company’s progress with the manufacturing facility in Sri City.

Kikuchi said that the company will manufacture pick-up trucks at the facility and that it would start operations by April 2016. Isuzu is setting up a manufacturing facility in Sri City with an initial investment of ₹1,500 crore.

Following his meeting with the Chief Minister in Japan last year, Kikuchi said nearly 75 suppliers are keen to invest in Andhra Pradesh. “We will require the Government to drive ancillary industries too,” Isuzu executives requested the Chief Minister.

Responding to their suggestions, the Chief Minister said that the Government would come up with a policy for ancillary industries in the next Cabinet meeting.

The Chief Minister added that the State will also identify clusters within Sri City and in other areas of the State where ancillary industries will be set up.

Isuzu executives informed that the facility will provide nearly 1,500 to 2,000 jobs to the local youth.

The Chief Minister briefed them that he wants to make Nellore-Chennai-Tirupati as the automobile hub on the lines of Tokyo-Kawasaki-Yokohama trio cities.

On meeting with the suppliers who want to invest in Andhra Pradesh, the Chief Minister said the industries and infrastructure department will meet them during the launch of investment mission (a sub-mission of the government) on April 24, 2015.
