JK Sugar today said its shareholders have approved the company’s merger with Dhampur Sugar Mills.

In a meeting held on January 9, “the scheme of amalgamation amongst J K Sugar and Dhampur Sugar Mills was duly approved by shareholders,” J K Sugar said in a filing to the BSE.

In June 2012, the board of Dhampur Sugar Mills had approved the merger scheme.

JK Sugars has sugarcane crushing capacity of over 4,000 tonnes per day, while Dhampur Sugar Mills has capacity to crush 39,500 tonnes of cane per day.

Both the companies are based in Uttar Pradesh, which is second in the country for sugar production after Maharashtra.

J K Sugar shares closed at Rs 18.50 a piece on the BSE, slightly higher than the previous day.
