JSW Cement Ltd will be completely switching over to the production of Portland Slag Cement (PSC), according to its CEO, Anil Kumar Pillai.
Speaking to newspersons after the formal launch of PSC here on Friday, Pillai said slag cement was “ideally” suited to both infrastructure and housing constructions “We have six million tonnes cement production capacity per annum and will be producing only this variety of cement,” he added.
The price per bag of PSC has been fixed in the range of ₹275 to ₹325 almost comparable to the ordinary Portland cement price. The OP Jindal Group company was expecting a massive increase in demand for slag cement in view of the formation of the new Government at the Centre and some states with increased focus on infrastructural projects.
“ The AP Government has issued an order about a week ago mandating use of only Portland slag cement in all Government constructions,’’ Pillai said.
Pankaj Kumar Kulkarni – Director, JSW Cement – said the company was working on the investment modalities of the previously-announced new cement unit to be set up in Gulbarga. “We also want to increase the grinding capacity of our plant at Nandhyal in Andhra Pradesh,” he added.
The use of slag cement is very popular outside India accounting for over 90 per cent total cement production. In India, however, out of total 360 mtof cement produced, it accounted for only 7 per cent, he added.
