Larsen & Toubro has spruced up its team for a hard drive into cleantech business.

The company has appointed R. Srinivasan to head ‘clean & alternative energy’ and has transferred two officials from other departments into the ‘solar, wind, smart grid and security solutions’.

Srinivasan has been appointed Vice-President and Head of Clean & Alternative Energy and will report to S. Rajavel, Executive Vice President & Head – Water and Solar.

K. Natarajan and R. Shankaran have been moved to the cleantech group from the ‘power transmission and distribution’ division.

The formation of this new team has been done “to provide a greater impetus and a significant share of business opportunities in these domains’’, according to an internal circular of L&T.

Shaji John continues to be Head (Solar) and Harshitha Kumar, Head (Solar Roof-tip). Natarajan will head ‘wind electric initiatives’, while R. Shankaran will head ‘security solutions initiatives’.

L&T is the largest ‘engineering, procurement and construction’ player in the solar sector, with orders for 220 MW on hand.

In May, L&T had said that it had orders worth Rs 2,650 crore from water and solar business.

However, after the second round of project awards under the National Solar Mission, where 340 MW worth of orders were given out, L&T was able to secure only 20 MW of EPC jobs from the project winners.

Sources in the company had previously told Business Lin e that the company would like to be an EPC player in the wind power sector too.
