Mahindra Reva Electric Vehicles has introduced its all-electric, automatic ‘Mahindra e2o’ in Hyderabad and plans to offer it in more markets as the infrastructure for public charging gets ready.

Part of the $16.9-billion Mahindra Group, Mahindra Reva plans to demonstrate the advantages of electric mobility across the country and continue to build an ecosystem for electric mobility in India. It is in discussions with several States to offer electric mobility solutions, including for heritage tourist sites and last mile linkages for metro rail projects.

The technologically laden e2o is priced at Rs 5.59 lakh ex-showroom Hyderabad for the premium variant, including the Government’s FAME (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles) Demand Incentive.

In addition, the customer has to pay a fixed monthly e2o care protection plan of Rs 2,999 for five years, which is valid for 50,000 km. The e2o is manufactured in Mahindra Reva’s platinum-rated plant in Bangalore.

Arvind Mathew, Chief Executive Officer, Mahindra Reva, said, “We are taking the lead in creating a comprehensive ecosystem to usher in a positive change in the lives of our customers and benefit our societies at large. It is our effort to make electric vehicles more accessible and easy to use.”

“Further, the timely intervention of the Centre through the FAME scheme was a definitive boost to the EV industry in India and has put into motion better affordability for electric vehicles,” he said.

Powered by lithium–ion batteries and a 3-phase induction electric motor, the Mahindra e2o is fully automatic and designed for city driving. It can accommodate four adults and one full charge provides a driving range of 120 km.

With 10 on-board computers, the car provides real-time feedback of all the vehicle’s functions, does a daily heart beat check of the vital systems and sends alerts if anything has to be fixed, corrected or attended to. The regenerative braking pumps energy back into the car’s batteries and charges them every time the car slows down or on application of brakes.
