MakeMyTrip will hire 300 people over the next 12 months to add to its employee base of 1,700, a top executive told BusinessLine .

Eighty per cent of the company’s staff work out of its headquarters in Gurugram, while the rest are spread across its 16 offices pan India. The company, which has a 15 per cent attrition rate, has re-hired 20 employees who had left for personal or professional reasons, over the last eight months.

“This is part of our hiring strategy, as these re-hired employees can start delivering from day one; and retention of these employees is much higher. While some of them are back with new skills, there are at least 50 other employees who were waiting in the wings to be re-hired,” said Yuvaraj Srivastava, Chief Human Resource Officer, MakeMyTrip.

The company opened a 40,000-sq ft technology centre in Bengaluru on Wednesday with a seating capacity of 250 engineers, and is already staffed with 80 engineers. “We will scale up the tech centre headcount to 150 by the year-end and have 200-plus product managers, developers and designers in the next 15 months,” said Anshuman Bapna, Chief Product Officer.

Sanjay Mohan, CTO, said the team will have a strong focus on mobiles in order to build products for the rest of India which does not own smartphones and have low bandwidth connections.
