Maruti Suzuki India Limited has signed a memorandum of understanding with Andhra Pradesh Government to set up, manage and run Institute of Driving Training and Traffic Research at Venkatachalam in Darsi, Prakasham district.

Set up under the public private partnership (PPP) model, this will be Maruti Suzuki’s first such school in South India. The company plans to collaborate with various Government departments to promote road safety and driving as an employment opportunity among tribal youth.

N. Balasubramanyam, Transport Commissioner, Andhra Pradesh and Mahesh Rajoria, Assistant President, Driving Training, Maruti Suzuki inked the MoU.

Mahesh Rajoria in a statement said, “The inception of Driving Training and Research Institute was with an aim to upscale professional driver training and lay down the ground rules for safe driving. Maruti Suzuki has been working on this front for over a decade now. I am confident that our experience in this field of road safety will add immense value to this newest facility.”

While Maruti will run and manage the institute, the infrastructure spread across 20 acres will be provided by AP Government. The infrastructure for the school and related aspects will be ready by 2018.

The automotive major started its journey of imparting safe driving in 2000 with the launch of country first such centre under the PPP mode with the Delhi Government. It now manages six such centres in Delhi (2), Haryana (2), Uttarakhand (1), and Gujarat (1) and another centre is under construction in Aurangabad in Bihar.
