Nippon Paint has launched a ‘special effect’ paint based on design patterns created by students of the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT). Students used household articles such as the cleaning brush, hanger, rice gunny bag and sponge to create the patterns.

Nine design patterns were short-listed to create the Momento range of ‘special effect’ paints that will be available in the market starting Wednesday, according to Mahesh Anand, President, Decorative Business, Nippon Paint (India) Pvt Ltd.

The students were provided with paint to create their own designs. Two levels of contests were conducted and the company received 75 entries, Anand told media persons here. The new range is targeted at homeowners who enjoy painting their own living spaces, he said. “In our portfolio, a designer-finish product was missing. To design such a product — to use colour to bring patterns — we needed creative minds like NIFT students,” he added.
