Pollution problems continue to dog Dr Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd. Unit in the city. About five months after production was restricted by the State regulator at its Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API) manufacturing unit, the pharma major is yet to get the restrictions lifted.

``The company did not address concerns raised by us completely and the cap on production is still on. We are waiting to hear from it,’’ a top official of Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board told Business Line here.

The Board had directed Dr Reddy’s not to produce beyond 70 per cent of each of the products approved to be manufactured in the unit located at Jeedimetla industrial area till the corrective measures were taken. Stating that the restriction could only be removed after the completion of corrective measures by the company, the official said there would be a routine review of status every six months.

When contacted a spokesperson of Dr Reddy’s Laboratories had a different view. ``Whatever needed to be done from our side on the APPCB directives has been completed and we have sent the representation of the same to it,’’ he said.

There was no impact on the production activity in the company as the actual production quantities of the company are much lesser even after such restrictions, which fulfils the market requirement, he added.

MYLAN LABS

Meanwhile, the regulator has revoked the closure order of a manufacturing unit of Mylan Laboratories Ltd here as the company had addressed all the issues.

It was served a closure order in October last year. ``Though they had moved the court on our order, the company has been proactive in addressing the issues raised by us and is in constant coordination with the board,’’ the official said. Headquartered in Hyderabad, Mylan Laboratories operates nine API and intermediate manufacturing plants in India and China.
