State-owned power sector major NTPC Ltd has awarded solar PV project contracts to Tata Power Solar, Lanco Solar Energy, BHEL and Sterling and Wilson for setting up of 250 MW in Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh.

This 250 MW solar PV project is part of 1,000 MW ultra mega solar PV plant taken up by NTPC close to Kadiri in Anantapur.

The plant will come up in a phased manner and the first phase of 250 MW tenders have been finalised.

Tata Power Solar Systems Ltd of Bangalore has been awarded contract for 100 MW, Lanco Solar Energy (50 MW), BHEL (50 MW) and Sterling & Wilson, a Shapoorji Pallonji Group promoted company (50 MW).

NTPC has recently inked power purchase agreements (PPAs) with two AP discoms for 250 MW and the phase-I agreement entails supply of power at Rs 6.16 per unit.

The phase-I is based on domestic modules and other phases could be either domestic or combination of domestic and other sources.

When completed, this project of 1,000 MW would be the largest single location utility scale solar PV project.
