Photon Energy Systems has secured a mandate to execute a 3.5-MW solar photo-voltaic power plant for Ushodaya Enterprises, the publishers of leading Telugu daily Eenadu .

The Rs 25-crore project, which is expected to be ready within 3-4 months, will take Eenadu's installed capacity up from 6.5 MW to 10 mw.

The company had earlier implemented a 6.5-MW Midgil solar power plant in Mahbubnagar district by investing about Rs 50 crore. The entire project will come up on a 70-acre site in the backward district of the State.

Gautham Nalamada, Chief Executive Officer of Photon Energy, told Business Line that the 6.5-MW Midgil solar power plant is the country’s largest solar power unit with trackers installed to supply 12 million units per annum of electricity. The power generated is being used for printing the Eenadu Telugu daily and other group publications.

The Hyderabad-based Photon Energy has thus far deployed more than 65 MW of solar farms in the country, including a 5-mw solar unit for NTPC in Andamans. “We have a pipeline of 25 MW and the 40-MW module unit located near Hyderabad caters to domestic requirements and retail supplies,” Nalamada said.

The solar power unit has been operational for over four months and has been achieving a high plant load factor of 30 per cent, he said.
