A memorandum of understanding was signed at Paris today between Reliance Defence, a fully owned subsidiary of Reliance Infrastructure Ltd and Daher Aerospace, France, supplier of integrated systems for aerospace and advanced technologies.

Daher Aerospace is a tier-one manufacturer for Dassault Aviation and caters to the aerostructures segment, comprising fuselage sections and fairings made of composites as well as conventional metals.

It also supplies to other leading global aircraft manufacturers.

Teaming up with a tier-one manufacturer for Dassault makes perfect business sense for Reliance Defence, for in India, Dassault has 50 per cent offset obligation for 36 Rafale aircraft, a contract valued close to $8.8 billion.

Reliance Defence is a key partner with Dassault Aviation for the offset programme, and is set to be a leading beneficiary when it helps execute the offsets.

Aerostructure specialist Daher generates a turnover in excess of €1 billion and has an order book which corresponds to more than three years of turnover. It has also designed and built its first-ever thermoplastic composite wing rib, applying its technological expertise for increasingly complex airframe components.

This offers aircraft manufacturers lightweight solutions that are alternative, or complementary to metallic and more traditional thermoset composite parts. The rib is displayed for the first time at the Paris Air Show.

In a statement, Reliance Defence said the strategic partnership with Daher would aim to jointly explore opportunities in design and manufacture of composite parts; design and build welded ducts, metal conduits, swaged pipes and cable harness supports; as well as aerostructure components, integrated logistics, airframes and related industrial activities.
