Steel Authority of India Ltd said on Saturday that production at its Durgapur Steel Plant and Alloy Steel Plant, both located at Durgapur in West Bengal, were affected owing to power transmission restriction imposed by Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC).
“A 20 to 30 per cent power restriction by DVC for the past few days has affected the production in the plants,” SAIL said in a statement. “We are selectively stopping certain units, including phase-wise load-shedding in the steel township, to tide over the situation till it improves”, the statement added.
Operations at DVC’s coal and hydro-based power stations have been facing problem over procurement of coal as it ran payment arrears over Rs 1,403 crore.
Earlier this month, it had warned its consumers that it might have to halt generation owing to fuel problem. The 6,357-MW power generator’s problem stemmed from Rs 8,000-crore plus power payment backlog by Jharkhand till July.
