It’s not just about money — entrepreneurship is about a vision to make something big and the commitment to fully do what is needed.
This was one of the lessons potential entrepreneurs possibly took home from the TiECON Chennai 2014 awards on Friday where achievers won awards in a range of categories.
Whether a first time entrepreneur setting up a small shop — a jewellery store that grew over five decades to a multinational diversified group like G Rajendran’s GRT Group or the couple Uvaraj and Kanni Uvaraj who promoted mobile phone seller Poorvika Mobile World, which in a decade has grown to a chain of 500 stores and business of more than ₹1,000 crore – it is about commitment and the drive, they said accepting the award.
Vellayan Subbiah, who scripted the turnaround of Cholamandalam Finance, exemplified this spirit of commitment when he made a pitch to back “any entrepreneur with good ideas in finance technology”.
The award winners were selected from a pool of over 2,000 nominations by a five-member jury headed by CV Sankar Industry Secretary, Government of Tamil Nadu, said Lakshmi Narayanan, President, TiE Chennai, addressing the annual event of the organisation which encourages entrepreneurs.
