Jessop & Co, one of the oldest engineering companies, reopened on Saturday after the Government’s assurances to the authorities on the law and order front. The move by the Ruia-led management has brought joy to some 650 workers. Jessop issued suspension of work notice on May 15, alleging worsening law and order and lack of productivity at the plant. At the reopening, West Bengal Finance Minister Amit Mitra said: “We are happy that work will resume at the initiative of Labour Minister Malay Ghatak.”
