Shantha Biotechnics, an arm of Sanofi Pasteur, has supplied four lakh doses of its paediatric pentavalent vaccine Shan5 to Madhya Pradesh.
The supply of vaccine was intended for immunisation of children in Gwalior and Jabalpur, the Hyderabad-based company said in a release issued here on Tuesday.
Shan 5 is a fully-liquid five-in-one, convenient, safe and high-quality vaccine that provides effective protection for children from 6 weeks of age against five diseases: diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, Hib and hepatitis B. In April 2014, Shan5 was prequalified by the World Health Organization (WHO).
Shantha bagged an international tender in December 2014 to supply 37 million doses of vaccine to global health organisations in 2015 and 2016, in a ten-dose vial presentation.
The vaccine will be used in the routine immunisation programs enabling up to ten million children to receive protection from five paediatric diseases.
“As one of the strategic manufacturing platforms for Sanofi Pasteur, Shantha is delivering on its commitment to serve Indian health needs and provide access in underserved vaccine markets,’’ Harish Iyer, CEO, Shantha, said in a release.
