The SRM group - that owns SRM educational institutions and has various other business interests — will launch its second satellite channel, Vendhar TV (after a Tamil news channel, Puthiya Thalaimurai).

Announcing this at a press conference here on Thursday, Ravi Pachamoothoo, Chaiman, SRM Group, said Vendhar TV will be a general entertainment channel, and can be viewed all over India and in countries including Singapore, Malaysia and the West Asian countries. The channel will be delivered through Arasu Cable, SCV Cable and direct-to-home platforms such as AirTel and Videocon. “We are also in talks with other DTH service providers to carry our channel,” he said.

The GEC will beam an array of programmes ranging from daily soaps and reality game shows to film-based content. It will also have three news bulletins a day.

“We have taken enough measures to ensure that our programmes cater to viewers from all age groups. There will be a bit of everything for everybody,” said Pachamoothoo.
