The management of Suzlon Energy Ltd (SEL) has informed the authorities that it will come back to them by early next week on resolving the issues at its Udupi plant.

In the early hours of November 14, SEL had suspended operations at its rotor blade manufacturing unit at Padubidri SEZ in Udupi district. It had said then the workers had indulged in severe go-slow tactics resulting in production losses.

Priyanka Mary Francis, Udupi Deputy Commissioner (DC), told BusinessLine the SEL management had a meeting with her, the Assistant Development Commissioner of SEZ, Kochi, Superintendent of Police (SP) of Udupi district and representatives from the workers’ union.

Stating that the discussions were smooth and calm, she said that the management representatives blamed the reduced production rate at the plant on the workers’ go-slow tactics. They also reportedly said there was a dispute among the union members itself, due to which there was an ‘undeclared strike’ at the plant.

The union representatives insisted that there was no issue among the workers, and stressed on the need to restart the plant.

The management representative promised to discuss the issue with the board of directors. “He said he will get back to us by next week,” Francis said. The workers withdrew the strike after she and the SP convinced them, she added.
