Swedish company FlowOcean AB, which plans to set up floating offshore windmills for power generation, is looking for partners in India and European countries for its first commercial venture.

The company, which launched commercial operations seven months ago and is yet to execute a project anywhere, is talking to its potential partners in India, Scotland, Belgium and Sweden, to set up such windmills under a patented new technology invented by Bertil Moritz. These floating and anchored offshore windmills, and connected wind parks, can also be moved to suitable positions, said Urban Joelsson, Chairman and CEO.

The company, which has been granted 10 patents so far and is awaiting 10 more patents, is collaborating with the Indian Institute of Technology-Bombay (IIT-B) for a feasibility report. A 30-metre depth up to the river or seabed is required to anchor the mill.

The per megawatt cost of installing a floating windmill, at €2 million (about ₹15 crore) will be 70 per cent less than a similar mill onshore.
