Tata Hitachi is planning to target municipal corporations which are in the process of modernisation to sell its excavators.

“We have identified this new opportunity after we successfully sold excavators to Bengaluru’s civic body BBMP,” Sandeep Singh, Managing Director, Tata Hitachi Construction Machinery Company, told BusinessLine at CII’s EXCON 2015 expo.

“This experience is coming in handy for us to target local bodies.

“Now it offers a big business for the industry in the wake of Central governments ‘Smart Cities’ and ‘Swatch Bharat’ campaigns,” he added.

Local bodies like municipalities are to offer big business for the construction equipment (CE) industry in the wake of the Centre’s initiatives.

Tata Hitachi has sold 33 excavators to BBMP alone and is expecting more orders form other local bodies in the country.

Singh said: “As manpower is getting expensive and time to execute projects getting limited this calls for higher degree of mechanisation.”

“This is where we are positioning ourselves to do well,” he added.

Apart from this, Tata Hitachi is also targeting highways, irrigation and water grid management.

The company has set a target to sell 4,500 CE vehicles this fiscal (FY 2015-16), which amounts to five per cent growth.

At CII-EXCON, the company launched two products in the ZAXIS GI Series Hydraulic Excavators and the new super series of TMX20 targeted at excavation work in mining and infrastructure sectors.
