Tata Motors has won orders for 2,700 buses under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission-II (JNNURM) scheme. The orders are for its ‘Urban’ buses, which have been designed for state transport authorities.
Of the total 2,700 buses, order for 487 vehicles was placed by Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) and another 780 unit by Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC). The company would be providing Tata Marcopolo built buses as under the JNNURM–II scheme, the company said in a statement.
These buses are fitted with CCTV cameras, wider passage-way, wider window panes and lower entry-exit doors. These vehicles also incorporate intelligence transport systems for public information, indicating expected time of arrival at bus stops and route announcements within the bus.
"We will shortly commence delivery of our ‘urban’ buses,” said Ravi Pisharody, Executive Director, Commercial Vehicles Business Unit at Tata Motors.
“These buses are manufactured at Tata Marcopolo Motors Ltd’s facility in Dharwad and Lucknow,” he added.
These buses will enhance operational efficiency for State Transport Units (STUs), it said, adding the company will impart training to drivers of STUs and operators handling the new buses.
