Integrated energy company Tata Power has decided to give priority to Africa, South-East Asia, West Asia and Turkey, and SAARC (India Region) geographies for building its international business, the company said in a statement.

CEO and MD of Tata Power, Anil Sardana, said the company will continue to evaluate various opportunities for providing management and technical advisory services in distribution business, including possible partnerships, in the shortlisted geographies of interest.

In the Africa region, the company is present in Zambia with the Itezhi Tezhi Power Corporation Ltd (ITPC). The company has 50 per cent share in ITPC, which has implemented the 120-MW Itezhi Tezhi Hydro Project. ITPC is the first public private partnership of its kind in the energy sector in Zambia and has a 25-year US Dollar denominated power purchase agreement. In Nigeria, the company is engaged as the technical and managerial adviser in a distribution venture managing Benin and Eko distribution companies, the statement said.

Turkey projects

The company also has managed to have a major footprint in the power sector in the Republic of Georgia near Turkey. Two projects are underway with a cumulative capacity of 371 MW and another project of 150 MW is under discussion.

Feasibility studies

The statement added that in Vietnam the company is developing 1,320-MW Long Phu 2, imported coal based power project in Soc Thang district, which is based on super-critical technology, for which feasibility studies have been completed and power purchase agreement is being negotiated.
