Thales has won a contract to provide AFC (automatic fare collection) systems for the second phase of Rapid Metro Gurgaon, operated by IL&FS Rail Ltd.
The company declined to share the contract size.
Rapid Metro is connected to the Delhi Metro system and the two systems have inter-operable ticketing systems.
Thales also has orders to provide AFC systems for New Delhi Metro and the first phase of Rapid Metro Gurgaon, operated by IL&FS Rail Ltd.
For Gurgaon’s Rapid Metro project, Thales will provide, install, test and commission complete AFC systems for the new five-station section of the metro system between Sikandarpur and Sector 55-56. The project is expected to be completed in 24 months, said a release.
Thales has also been awarded a project to provide AFC systems for Phase III of the Delhi Metro. The project is expected to be completed in 30 months. Thales will manage design, manufacture and supply of AFC Systems for 79 new stations of the Delhi Metro. The company will also manage local supplies, installation, testing and commissioning of AFC systems for 25 stations.
The company has provided communication and supervision systems for the New Delhi, Mumbai, Jaipur, Hyderabad and Bangalore metros, and advanced signalling for the Hyderabad metro.
Thales's inter-operable fare collection systems provide efficient revenue collection, clearing and settlement solutions for transport operators.
