Schwing Stetter (India) Pvt Ltd has launched five- and six-tonne tower cranes branded Schwing-XCMG. The Schwing-XCMG cranes are from XCMG, a Chinese manufacturer of cranes and one of the largest in the world, which holds a 60 per cent stake in the Schwing Stetter holding company in Germany.

Anand Sundaresan, Vice-Chairman and Managing Director, Schwing Stetter (India), said the launch marks the diversification of the product base for the Indian subsidiary.

This entity was so far only in concrete handling equipment such as concrete pumps, truck-mounted mixers and batching plants.

In line with the anticipated growth in infrastructure development and construction industry here, the company had decided on launching two models of tower cranes.

The cranes will initially be imported but will eventually, over the next year or so, be mostly manufactured locally.

The five-tonne capacity tower crane is the most in demand in the domestic market, followed by the six-tonne crane.

VG Sakthi Kumar, Managing Director, Schwing Stetter Sales and Services Pvt Ltd, said the five-tonne unit, XGT63YD (5013-5), will be priced at about ₹60 lakh and the bigger version XGT100YD at ₹90 lakh.
