TVS Training and Services, a key partner of the National Skill Development Corporation, has launched a series of initiatives to train rural youth for a range of jobs.
TVS TS’ Welding Institute, awarded ISO 9001 certification recently, a Plumbing Academy and a finance and accounts programme for school students who have completed 10th class to be employed in manufacturing sector offer an opportunity for rural youth who do not have access to formal skill training, said a press release from the member of the TVS Group.
For instance, an 18-year-old from the Irula community Ilango, who was doing odd jobs for nearly a decade after he lost his parents in the tsunami of 2004, is now employed with Sundaram Fasteners.
Bhagwat, a school drop-out from Orissa, now earns over Rs 17,000 a month in Wheels India.
These are just two examples of over 150 whose lives have changed through vocational training at the institute approved by the Indian Institute of Welding. It also offers skill upgrading programmes for the employed, said the release.
The Plumbers’ Academy run by TVS TS in collaboration with Parryware Roca has trained over 150 students who now work with sanitary ware dealers.
The release quoting Malini Srinivasan, Chairperson, TVS TS, said, working youth in the informal sector have to be trained to improve their employability and contribute to economic growth.
