Tata Power Company Ltd has said it has registered its 25 MW project at Mithapur, Gujarat, with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
This will allow the company to trade the certified emission reductions (CERs) it will earn from the renewable energy project.
GHG abatement
Tata Power intends to have a 20-25 per cent contribution from “clean power sources”, the company said here.
This is Tata Power’s second CDM registered project after the 50.4 MW Khandke wind farm in Maharashtra.
Anil Sardana, Managing Director, Tata Power, said, the company will continue pursuing avenues to add ‘clean and renewable energy’ generation capacities to increase its renewable energy portfolio wherever possible.
“We plan to add 150-200 MW of wind power and 50 MW of solar power capacity every year.”
Tata Power’s Mithapur project is one of the largest of its kind in the country and has crossed 43,000 MWh of generation since its commissioning in January 2012.
Power purchase pact
Tata Power, through its 100 per cent subsidiary, Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd, has signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for the project with Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd.
