The US-based Flowserve Corporation, which is into the manufacture of flow control products required by the power, oil and chemical industries, today commissioned its modern pump manufacturing unit in the city.

The expanded plant at Myleripalayam in Coimbatore would not only service its markets within India but meet the requirements of the power and oil & gas industries across the Asia-Pacific region, the company said in a release.

The newly commissioned facility would have a modern pump manufacturing facility apart from testing facilities, and is an addition to its two existing production blocks. The third block would have the facility to handle large complex pump packages that could weigh up to 50 tonnes.

Tom Pajonas, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Flowserve Corporation, said the expanded facilities at Coimbatore would enable Flowserve to meet the requirements of its clients in the region, besides facilitating future market expansion. 

It was in 2007 that Flowserve started its first plant in Coimbatore for producing process pumps for the chemical and oil & gas industries up to a rating of 1.1 megawatts (MW). The second block was inaugurated in 2008 for the production of medium-range vertical and multistage barrel pumps to serve the requirements of the power and oil & gas industries up to a rating of 3 MW. Besides, Flowserve started a pump QRC (Quick Response Centre) in 2013 at Vadadora for providing market support in Western India.

Apart from its Coimbatore facility, Flowserve has valve manufacturing facilities at Bangalore and Chennai and has joint ventures for producing mechanical seals in Chennai and chemical processing pumps in Hubli.

The dedication ceremony at Coimbatore today was attended by Jim Rollans, Chairman of the Board of Flowserve Corporation, Tom Pajonas, COO, Colin Chua, President, Asia Pacific Operations and V Asokan, Director, GM Operations & Sales, Flowserve India Controls Private Ltd, the release said.
