Videocon Mobile Phones will launch three-four models of both feature and smartphones every month starting June, according to Jerold Chagas Pereira, its Business head.

Part of the Videocon Group, the company will considerably increase its manufacturing, distribution and marketing strategies to break into the league of top five domestic mobile brands in the country, he told newspersons here today.

The increased production capacities at its plants in Hyderabad, Kolkata and Madurai will go on stream between August and December this year.

Once fully operational, the capacity will go up to two million handset per month from the existing 700,000 units produced at Aurangabad and Kashipur in Uttaranchal manufacturing units, Pereira said.

New markets

Videocon Mobile wants to enter the markets of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal in the future.

Its strong presence in Rajasthan, UP, Punjab, Haryana and so on, will be strengthened further, he added.

Stating that in value terms the company makes 35 per cent of the handset components locally and 65 per cent import, Pereira said: “We will support ‘Make in India’ in the expansion plans for production facilities and updated product portfolio. The strength of the Videocon group is manufacturing and it will be leveraged”.

New smartphones range

The company will introduce a new range of smartphones designed in-house and assembled at the manufacturing facilities.

The Z55 Dash, which offers high speed with its Octa-core processor will be the first Octa-core smartphone made by the company in India. It will be launched at a competitive price soon, he said.

The company’s products will ranége in cost from ₹1,000 for a feature phone to ₹9,000 for a smartphone.

In the tablet space, it wants to introduce the 3G calling tablet at ₹4,900 and features 7-inch screen and fast processor. The mobile devices range from multi-media feature phones to high-end Android-based smartphones and tablets.
