Volkswagen India will recall 3,877 Vento cars with 1.5-litre diesel engine and manual gear box due to inconsistent carbon monoxide (CO) emissions that were observed to be sometimes exceeding the threshold limits during the Conformity of Production (COP) tests done by the ARAI.

In a statement, the company said it is also temporarily suspending sales of the manual gearbox version of the Volkswagen Vento with 1.5-litre diesel engine with immediate effect.

Volkswagen India is analysing the issue and will propose technical measures to ARAI to solve this inconsistency at the earliest. Once approved and confirmed by the competent authorities, VW India will implement the measures and resume the production and sales of the relevant vehicle.

The same technical measures will also be implemented in the impacted vehicles that are already with customers.

This problem impacts only the manual gearbox version of Vento with 1.5-litre diesel engine and is not connected to the global NOx emissions topic, the statement adds.

All other diesel models and variants of Volkswagen India, including Vento 1.5TDI with Automatic Transmission (DSG) and all diesel Polo cars, conform to the norms and will continue to be produced and sold in India.

Following Volkswagen Group India’s decision, Skoda Auto India has also voluntarily paused sale of the Rapid 1.5 diesel engine with the manual transmission for a temporary period. The halt in sales is with effect from April 1. Skoda Auto India will continue to sell other Rapid models, which are powered by 1.6 MPI petrol engine and the 1.5 TDI diesel engine with the automatic transmission, the company said in a statement.

Passat called back AP reports: Meanwhile, Volkswagen is recalling about 91,000 Passat cars with diesel engines because wiring under the body can corrode, overheat and potentially start fires.

The recall covers mid-size Passats from the 2012 through 2014 model years.
