Swedish car manufacturer Volvo has launched the S60 Cross Country, a luxury sedan that was first showcased at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show and then at Geneva Motor Show, in India. The sedan is the company's first offering this year, even as Volvo is readying for five more launches.

The S60 Cross Country is priced at ₹38.9 lakh, ex-showroom, Mumbai (without Octroi). The vehicle, which combines the features of a sedan and a sports utility vehicle (SUV), comes with a higher ground clearance of 201 mm and an all-wheel drive (AWD).

“This car is really made for India. Indians really love sedans and the features such as higher road clearance and AWD makes it perfect for monsoon and rough road conditions,” said Tom von Bonsdorff, Managing Director, Volvo Auto India (VAI), a subsidiary of the Swedish company.

The sedan is powered by a Volvo diesel powertrain that delivers 190 hp and 420 Nm of torque, with the front and rear suspensions armed with hydraulic shock absorbers and stabiliser bars. Similar to its six luxury models sold in India, the S60 Cross Country’s Diesel powertrain is fitted with a particulate filter that traps harmful particles such as PM2.5 and PM10 by up to 99 per cent.

The AWD comes standard with dynamic stability and traction control (DSTC) and Advanced Stability Control features. The vehicle also has safety features such as electronic brake distribution, electronic brake assistance, hill descent control and City Safety braking (laser assisted automatic braking).

The vehicle is available in five colours (rich java, osmium grey, oynx black, crystal white and bright silver).

VAI is also planning to launch five more models, including variants, this year. In the third quarter of the year, the company intends to launch a facelift version of its V40 Cross Country hatchback, SUVs XC90 R-Design and XC90 Excellence and sedan Volvo S60 Polestar.

“We will also bring in our S90, our latest luxury sedan, by the end of the year,” Bonsdorff said.
