The Pune Industrial Court has denied interim relief to motorcycles maker Bajaj Auto in an ongoing wage dispute with its workers’ union, Vishwakalyan Kamgar Sanghatana (VKS).
Bajaj Auto’s application for relief had said the VKS had terminated a nine-year wage agreement prematurely, and not participated in a review process.
It wanted the Court to stay the operation of the termination notice dated March 9, 2013, and suspend the rights of the union.
The order of DH Deshmukh, Member, Industrial Court Pune, said it could not be said the union had failed to negotiate or discuss or take part in the review process to decide the increments. And that he did not find any strong prima facie case made out under the relevant section of the Act.
“The interim relief application is, therefore, rejected,” the order said.
The wage agreement was signed between Bajaj Auto and the union in May 2010 and was valid till May 2019. It also provided for a review every three years, failing which the agreement could be terminated by either party.
