Bajaj Auto on Thursday launched its latest sports bike Dominar 400 priced up to ₹1.5 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) to compete with Royal Enfield in this range.

The Dominar, powered by a 373cc triple spark four-valve DTS-i engine with fuel injection and liquid cooling, will be available with ABS and disc brake versions priced at ₹1.5 lakh and ₹1.36 lakh, respectively.

“The Dominar is the best and biggest bike ever from our stable and we are entering a price segment of ₹1-2 lakh which has a leader (Royal Enfield) with 80 per cent market share,” said Rajiv Bajaj, Managing Director.

The Dominar 400 will be sold to customers at 80 showrooms in 22 towns. Test ride and display bikes will be available at these showrooms starting Friday, the company said.

Customers can reserve their Dominar 400 trough a centralised online booking with ₹9,000, it said, adding that online bookings have commenced from Thursday and customers can choose the dealer they would like delivery through.

Deliveries will commence from January and the balance payment will be made directly to the selected dealer, it added.

“We are targeting about 20 per cent of the segment,” Bajaj said.

Bajaj added that the segment, currently dominated by Royal Enfield, is clocking around 65,000-75,000 units a month. “In 2017, this will be a million units a year segment,” he said, adding that the company is looking at selling around two lakh units of the Dominar a year.
