Cashkaro.com, a cashback and coupon offers website, in a survey said that 75 per cent Indians feel that the current UPA-led Congress government has not fulfilled its responsibility towards the taxpayers.

The survey was conducted among over 1,600 online shoppers over two days during country’s 16th Lok Sabha Polls.

The most interesting take-away came in the form of 66 percent respondents choosing the proposed measure of abolishing income tax and exploring alternatives like imposing a tax on transactions.

“We believe that India is a price conscious country and we constantly help our members save money on everything from clothes, mobiles, travel to food. As part of our efforts to connect more with the online shopper, we thought of conducting an awareness survey around their finances. Without taking sides, we also wanted to showcase what the new age Indians believe and want from our Government. While awareness levels are high, so are our expectations,” said Swati Bhargava, CEO, Cashkaro.com

The survey showcased a positive image of India’s awareness levels though.  83 percent respondents were aware of the difference between direct and indirect taxes and 82 per cent knew where the taxpayers' money was being deployed. 87 per cent were aware of Income Tax, 79 per cent knew about Value Added Tax (VAT) and 77 percent were aware of Service Taxes. Property Tax scored a 65 per cent and Toll Tax received 61 per cent percent votes. Entertainment, Municipal and Wealth Tax followed with 58, 55 and 44 percent respectively.

A high of 75 per cent of respondents felt the Government had not fulfilled responsibilities towards Taxpayers. When asked about who could possibly deploy taxes most effectively, 65 per cent went with Bharatiya Janata Party and 24 percent said Aam Aadmi Party.

As Cashkaro.com is all about giving cashback on purchases at Myntra, Jabong, Amazon.in, Dominos, Yatra & 500 more websites, the survey also enquired about which taxes respondents would like to get Cashback on, if given a choice. 37 per cent said they would want a cashback on Income Tax. 17 per cent chose to receive cashback on VAT whereas 12 per cent preferred cashback on Service Tax.
