Lesser number of bags of new turmeric arrived at Erode markets. “Only 100 bags of new crop arrived and all the bags were sold for ₹9,200-9,500 a quintal. Some farmers are keeping the stock of new turmeric with them expecting a rise in prices. Similarly, the arrival of old turmeric bags toodecreased to 1,800 bags. 60 per cent of the stocks were sold. Still the traders are waiting for upcountry demand,” said RKV Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association. The price of the finger variety (new) decreased by ₹75-200 a quintal and that of the old finger turmeric by ₹300. The new and old root variety lost ₹300. At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association, the new finger variety fetched ₹8,257-9,577; the root variety ₹7,250-8,355. The old finger turmeric went for ₹8,196-9,398; the root variety ₹7,199-8,395. Of the 864 bags on offer, 410 were sold.
