The United Planters Association of South India (UPASI) intends to enhance the visibility of TGLIA (The Golden Leaf India Awards) teas through roadshows, food festivals and logo promotion in a big way.

These efforts assume significance when consumers are ready to pay more for premium better quality teas, says V Unnikrishnan, Convenor of The Golden Leaf India Award — Southern Tea competition.

“These initiatives will create bigger demand for TGLIA teas at remunerative prices,” he said on the sidelines of the 13th edition of the awards.

Meanwhile, the special auction for TGLIA teas conducted to coincide with the 13th edition through the Tea Trade Association of Cochin witnessed good participation by buyers from different centres.

Harrisons Malayalam Ltd-SBU-A won 8 awards followed by Vigneshwar Estate Tea factory with five awards. Parry Agro and United Nilgiri bagged four awards each. Joonktolle Tea and Industries and Kodanad Estate got three awards each; Bombay Burmah Trading Corporation, Harrisons Malayalam Ltd — SBU B and Devon Plantations bagged two each, KDHP, AVATTA Beverages and Darmona Tea got an award each.
