The Cochin Port Trust is keen to set up a tea park in Willingdon Island, for which it has offered adequate land for Tea Board.
According to G Senthilvel, CPT Chairman, setting up of a tea park in the port area would enable the exporters to reduce their logistics costs. Of the 96,000 million kg handled in South India, about 70,000 million kg is handled through the port.
The chairman requested Paulrasu, Executive Director, Tea Board, to consider the tea park proposal during an interactive meeting at Coonoor. Paularasu promised to look into it after his visit to Kochi shortly.
