Blenders support lifted the prices of good liquoring tea varieties at Kochi auction.

The quantity on offer in dust CTC in Sale No 42 was 8,85,000 kg. Though the prices of some teas were lower following quality, plainer varieties continued to appreciate in value. Some export enquiry was there for plainer varieties, auctioneers Forbes, Ewart & Figgis said.

In Orthodox grades, the market for primary grades remained steady while others were lower and witnessed a lot of withdrawals. The quantity on offer was 10,500 kg and exporters were the main stakeholders of the orthodox dust market.

In Cochin CTC dust, good varieties fetched Rs 104-161, medium tea realised Rs 80-118 and plain grades quoted Rs 66-91. In the leaf variety, the market for good liquoring Nilgiri brokens, whole leaf and fannings in orthodox grades was steady to firm and sometimes dearer. The quantity on offer was 2,03,870 kg.

The market for CTC leaf was generally dearer by Rs 2-3 and sometimes more following quality. The quantity on offer was 41,652 kg. Upcountry, Kerala buyers and exporters absorbed the CTC quantity sold.

In dust grades, Monica/Puduthottam SFD came to the top quoting Rs 161 followed by Murugan/Puduthottam SRD at Rs 160. In leaf, Chamraj FOP-S (Green Tea) quoted the best prices of Rs 300 followed by Chamraj OP at Rs 285.
