Despite improved arrivals, prices of high-priced teas declined at Kochi auction. However, plainer teas were steady to firm and sometimes dearer, especially the grainier varieties.

The quantity on offer in CTC dust was 8,97,000 kg in sale no 47 and the demand was good with 86 per cent getting sold.

Leading blenders were active on good liquoring varieties, while there was subdued demand from upcountry buyers and regional blenders. Better export enquiry was noticed on teas sold between ₹90 and ₹98, the auctioneers Forbes, Ewart & Figgis said.

However, the orthodox market barely remained steady and tended to ease. The quantity on offer was 10,000 kg and exporters continued to be the mainstay of the market.

In Cochin CTC dust quotation, good varieties quoted ₹103-145, mediums fetched ₹94-118 and plain stood at ₹90-98.

Prices in leaf category also witnessed a declining trend. Demand for good Nilgiri brokens tended to ease. The quantity on offer was 197,500 kg. Fannings also followed a similar trend. However, better enquiry was noticed from CIS countries and other exporters.

There was good demand for CTC varieties and the quantity on offer was 56,500 kg. Exporters and upcountry buyers were the mainstay of the market.

In dust varieties, Puduthottam SFD quoted the best prices of ₹146 followed by Sholayar/Waterfall SFD at ₹144. In leaf, Chamraj FOP-S (green tea) fetched the best prices of ₹356 followed by P’s Woodlands Hyson Green Tea at ₹286.
